NHibernate vs ADO.NET Entity Framework Smackdown
Join us in the first head-to-head cage match comparing and contrasting NHibernate and ADO.NET Entity Framework to determine the grand champion for data access!
In one corner we'll have the open source champion, NHibernate for retrieving and persisting plain .NET objects from and to an underlying relational database; NHibernate has been in use by the market since November 2007 while its java parent, Hibernate, has been around since 2002.
In the other corner we'll have Microsoft ADO.NET Entity Framework for raising the level of abstraction available for data programming, simplifying the development of data aware applications and enabling developers to write less code; Entity Framework was released in August 2008 as part of Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1.
Join us as Shahzad Iqbal and Uwe Schmitz battle head-to-head (literally, there will be two projectors!) to demonstrate each technology:
- a brief introduction to Object/Relational Mapping (O/RM);
- an overview and demonstration of each technology;
- a look "under the covers";
- using stored procedures;
- implementing the CUD of CRUD; and
- Q&A (including a brief discussion of the "ADO.NET Entity Framework Vote of No Confidence")
Shahzad Iqbal is a Technical Architect from Protegra with a background in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
